Moray Agricultural Terraces

Circular, amphitheater-like agricultural ruins once used as an ecological laboratory by the Incas.

History & Background

Moray consists of concentric circular terraces that resemble a Roman amphitheater. Due to their design and orientation, the temperature difference between the top and bottom circles can vary by up to 15°C (27°F), allowing Incas to domesticate crops from different climates.

How to Arrive

Take a private taxi from Urubamba/Maras, or book a combined Maras/Moray tour from Cusco.

Practical Travel Tips

  • Included in the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Boleto Turístico). Have it ready.
  • Walk the path around the upper edge to appreciate the massive scale of the circles.
  • Avoid visiting in heavy rain as the dirt paths can become extremely slippery.
